For the fundraising foundation of Austin’s new children’s hospital, we led the design of four installations to showcase the names of the donors who made the project possible.
To recognize the significant gifts of Capital Campaign donors, this installation of etched glass boxes is programmed to change color throughout the day. The faces represent some of the children who have been treated by the Medical Center.
Etched glass sits within wood veneer frames which hide tiny LED lights.
For donors of the Annual Campaign Fund, the Butterfly Wall makes use of a touch-sensitive, internally illuminated flooring system. A low-tech video loop activates the wall with butterfly forms throughout the day.
In the evening, the butterflies become fireflies.
Donor names are applied to the touch-sensitive squares with vinyl letters. When a passerby touches a donor name, the video animates the flight of a butterfly from that square. This installation has proven to be a great distraction for patients and visitors of all ages.
The rich history of the Daughters of Charity (the religious order that founded Seton Hospitals in Central Texas), is represented in a modular installation on a patient floor.

This economically-produced installation recognizes the gifts of Seton employees.
Painted panels of different depths with adhesive letters display the names of employee donors.
