This water conservation non-profit groupĀ asked for our help to get their inaugural paddling fundraising event on Austin’s Lady Bird Lake off to a good start in spring, 2010. Our inspiration was up in the air.
The event's identity needed to appeal to families as well as the hard-core racing crowd, yet relate to the sponsor's purpose of educating the public about the river. Our solution combined the sporting event and nature into a fluid and illustrative mark. Special thanks go to our friend the Blue Heron for holding the pose.
Many ideas were put to paper during the identity development phase. We tried to keep our focus on the nature of the event itself, as well as bringing in elements that might be unique to the Colorado River.
Sometimes the solution is right in front of you. Or in this case, right above you. Our muse was the magnificent Blue Heron, a mainstay of Colorado River wildlife and often seen flying overhead as you paddle the river. Credit goes to intern Jennifer Andrades for her tireless efforts to get things just right.
An event banner was designed and placed along the Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail.
The event itself was the perfect combination of how we can learn about and protect our natural resources while enjoying a beautiful day in Austin.
