Rice Design Alliance Gala

Houston, Texas

Houston’s Rice Design Alliance is a non-profit champion of architecture and the built environment. For their annual gala, we designed a suite of materials that stand out from the usual fundraising fray.

  • 20|20, the evening's theme, honored the 20th anniversary of Cite Magazine, the RDA's esteemed publication. The save-the-date card, invitation, and event program made use of visual parlor tricks and optical illusions with economical, two-color printing. Event graphics and ephemera continued the theme with fun house mirrors and x-ray glasses.
  • The invitation came wrapped in a striped mylar sleeve.
  • The Gala theme was revealed as the recipient slid the sleeve across the booklet in order to open it.
  • The evening's program was an homage to the first issue of Cite. The graphic, an iridology chart, mimics the manhole cover used on the original August 1982 issue. (Iridology is the rather obscure practice of medical diagnosis via examination of the iris.)
  • The program's masthead and editorial style showcased the gala's committees and supporters, and the RDA Board of Directors.
  • The center spread was a timeline of the magazine's 20 year history and highlighted notable covers.
